How to Play Guitar in a Band - 3 Must-Know FAQ's

Are you thinking about committing your energy to start a band? Do you know how to play guitar in a band? And no, playing Guitar Hero on XBOX doesn't count as experience.

These are some important questions you need to ask yourself before starting a band or playing guitar in a band. I have a band called and trust me when I tell you it's not easy work. But I'm a musician and love the feeling of rocking out on stage for my fans.

Here are 3 quick FAQ's that will get you started in the right direction.

FAQ #1: What is your guitar skill level?

Are you a leader that followers will take order from? Are you a weekend musician or a professional that's focused on creating masterpieces? Are you playing guitar because you love the electrifying feeling the instrument gives you or is it for the groupies that'll follow?

Whatever your motivation is for starting a band, you need to figure it out now.

FAQ #2: What's your flavor of music and your goals as a guitarist?

Do you consider yourself a rock, jazz, blues, or heavy metal guitarist? Knowing what flavor of music you like will help you find your target audience. Become a master at a specific genre of music and then creating your own style or try out other genres.

FAQ #3: How do you contribute to the band? Know your role

Are you good at writing? Maybe you should be the song writer and stay behind the scenes. Or maybe you're good at playing and singing. I had an ex-member that wasn't good at anything dealing with playing the guitar but he's great at time management and organization so he's our manager.

You need to be clear on what role you are going to play in the band.
